**Wellness tourism: a force for local economic revitalization

Tourism is now being seen as a major means of revitalizing local economies, especially "healing tourism," which combines tourism and healing to provide benefits that promote physical, mental, and psychological health. It's also known internationally as wellness tourism and has great potential for growth in the global market.

The reason why healing tourism plays an important role in local economies is that most of its resources are located in rural areas. Mountains, rivers, cultural sites, etc. can be utilized as tourism resources, increasing the competitiveness of local areas and boosting local economies through increased tourism demand.

In addition, the limitation of the Korean tourism industry is the lack of diversity in tourism contents. Therefore, healing tourism is gaining attention as a new tourism content, and it is necessary to develop new contents that emphasize regional characteristics such as K-food. In this regard, healing tourism is recognized as an important strategy for a new leap forward in Korean tourism.

In order to link healing tourism with local economic revitalization strategies, a number of challenges need to be addressed. First, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation with the food sector using local representative foods. It is also important to make the most of healing tourism resources through convergence with various sectors.

In this way, healing tourism can be positioned as a key strategy for revitalizing local economies around wellness. The growth of wellness tourism is expected to have a positive impact not only on local economies but also on Korean tourism as a whole.
