Danyang Darian Tourist Area Night Fleecing Event with Wellness** **Night Fleecing Event at Danyang Darian Tourist Area

The Darian Tourist Area in Danyang, Chungcheongbuk-do, is hosting a nighttime flea market (flea market + busking) event during the peak summer season. The event is organised by the Danyang Tourism Organization (CEO Kim Kwang-pyo) and is a festival that combines a flea market selling a variety of local produce and products with busking performances by artists for campers visiting Darian Tourist Area. The flea market will be held four times, from 9-10 August and 15-17 August.

During the festival, participants can get free photo prints and cotton candy by posting hashtags and selfies on social media. There is also a mobile gifting event where participants who complete surveys will receive mobile giftycons. This will promote the attractiveness of Darien tourist destinations and boost the local economy.

The nighttime fleecing is part of the 'Design-Build Regional Tourism Development Project', which will redevelop the former youth hostel building of Darian Scenic Area into an accommodation facility specialising in wellness and work vacation programmes, and will be operational from 2026. Danyang Tourism Corporation plans to promote the clean environment and wellness programmes of Sobaeksan Mountain through various events that campers and local residents can participate in and enjoy together, and establish Daryan Tourist Area as a sanctuary for rejuvenation and healing.

**Wellness and fashion meet, apparel industry to strengthen cosmetics**.

Amid the downturn in the domestic apparel market and high prices, fashion companies are turning their attention to the cosmetics business. In line with the global popularity of K-beauty, many fashion companies are expanding their business into the cosmetics sector. In particular, cosmetics that reflect the wellness and vegan trends are attracting attention.

LF has seen great success with its sun protection line, Atte, which has seen a 60% increase in cumulative sales this year. The brand has grown rapidly since its launch in 2019 and has raised awareness by introducing vegan-certified products. LF is further pushing its cosmetics business this year, launching new sun protection products and skincare lines.

Shinsegae International recently acquired Amuse, a mid-priced indie beauty brand, to refresh its cosmetics business strategy. Amuse is a lifestyle beauty brand that is popular among the MZ generation and reflects the vegan and wellness trends. Shinsegae International plans to grow Amuse into a large brand worth 200 billion won by 2028.

This shift shows that the apparel industry is looking for new growth engines beyond fashion by expanding into the wellness and vegan cosmetics market. The convergence of fashion and cosmetics is expected to continue to strengthen in the future.

**Wellness and Senior Tourism in the Era of the 10 Million**.

Korea is expected to become an ultra-elderly society by 2025, and the tourism market for the senior generation, especially the baby boomers, is gaining attention. Currently, there are approximately 9.73 million seniors in Korea, a 49.2 per cent increase from 10 years ago. By 2025, people aged 65 and over will account for 20 per cent of the population.

Baby boomers have a lot of leisure time and a desire to travel, but their participation in tourism activities is low. As the tourism environment for them is insufficient, policy efforts are needed to create barrier-free tourism environments, develop customised tourism products, and expand support for travel vouchers.

Gyeonggi-do is expanding wheelchair-accessible vehicles and barrier-free walking paths through the 'Gyeonggi-do Barrier-Free Tourism Environment Creation Project', while Iksan City is providing wellness content through the 'Healing to Iksan' health travel programme. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also improving tourism accessibility for the elderly, the disabled, and families with infants and young children through the Open Tourism Destination Creation Project.

To promote the participation of baby boomers in tourism, tailored support that takes into account their physical, economic, and psychological characteristics is needed. Various support measures, such as travel assistance and financial support, should be provided to encourage their participation in tourism activities. This will improve the quality of life of the senior generation and create new growth engines for the tourism market. Active policy efforts by governments and local governments are essential.

**Wellness, K-beauty, and the allure of Botox** **Title.

A video of US-based Korean influencer Yerim Lee's experience with beauty treatments in Korea has gone viral. According to CNN, Lee posted a video of her 15 cosmetic procedures in Seoul, which has garnered more than 1.2 million views. Lee explained that the cost of procedures in South Korea is much lower than in the United States.

Comparing Botox and filler treatments, Lee said it costs $70 (about $95,000) to have the forehead, chin, and eyebrows treated in Seoul, compared to $500 to $1,400 (about $680,000 to $191,000) for the same procedures in New York. Even when you factor in the cost of plane tickets and accommodation, it can be more economical to have a procedure in South Korea if you're having a lot of procedures done at once.

Medical tourism in South Korea has been steadily increasing, with Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daegu, and Incheon each receiving large numbers of foreign medical tourists last year. This makes Korea a centre for wellness and medical tourism.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is promoting convergence clusters that integrate wellness and medical tourism, and will select six metropolitan local governments in the middle of this month. The project will be worth KRW1 billion per year for each region, totalling KRW3 billion. It will further boost Korea's wellness and medical tourism industry.

**Wellness and the AIA in pursuit of 'healthier, longer, better lives'** **Title.

Stuart Spencer, AIA Group Chief Marketing Officer, recently travelled to Korea to talk about AIA's wellness campaign and partnership with Tottenham Hotspur. AIA's 'Rethink Healthy' campaign aims to change the negative perceptions of life insurance and emphasise the importance of healthy and active living.

AIA has been a sponsor of Tottenham Hotspur since 2013, a relationship that has brought AIA brand recognition and successful marketing results. "Football is the most popular sport in Asia, and our partnership with Tottenham has been instrumental in achieving AIA's goals," said Spencer, GCMO. He is proud to see the AIA logo on Spurs' jerseys.

Spencer GCMO says that while life insurance is typically associated with illness and death, AIA emphasises positive and optimistic health. He pointed to misconceptions about health in Asia, advocating an approach that emphasises the importance of 'physical health', 'mental health', 'financial health', and 'environmental health', noting that unrealistic beauty standards, especially those emphasised on social media, are detrimental to the pursuit of good health.

The AIA is achieving these goals through its 'Healthier, Longer, Better Lives' (HLBL) campaign, with Heung Min Sohn as a prominent role model. Spencer describes Son as one of Asia's great athletes and a humble and moral person, which aligns well with AIA's wellness ethos.

AIA promotes wellness and health through community engagement activities in Korea, such as fan art exhibitions with paediatric cancer patients, which are part of AIA's social responsibility and giving back efforts.

The signing ceremony, which took place on 6 August at the Technology Diffusion Support Centre of Chosun University's Industry-Academia Cooperation Center, was attended by Lee Sook-young, director of the Marine Healthcare Efficacy Demonstration Centre, and Kim Mina, CEO of Ocean & Harvest. The core of the agreement is the 'natural seaweed seasoning manufacturing method', which is an original technology that uses the physicochemical properties of seaweeds such as wakame and kelp to release them from the surface in an eco-friendly manner.

The Marine Healthcare Center was established in April 2021 in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, to create infrastructure for the marine bio industry and provide training courses to revitalise the marine healing industry. Through this technology transfer, Ocean & Harvest plans to focus on research and development of inner beauty products using the antioxidant function of seaweed. "We will strive to commercialise algae-based products that are suitable for the era of climate change and secure competitiveness," said Kim Mina.

This agreement highlights the usefulness of algae in the wellness industry and marks an important turning point in the development of the marine bio industry.
